Scaled right down

Since Nikola Tesla demonstrated a radio-controlled boat in 1898 at the Electrical Exhibition in Madison Square Garden, there has been a passion for scale model motorboating. From the 1980s with the arrival of the nickel-cadium battery, electric model boat began to make a comeback. At PolyBoatGlobal we also consider that scaled_down model electric boats are yet another way to choose your cruise – either on a lake, a pond or even your swimming pool. One example of this was the Riverstone Regatta held on Riverstone Castle pond in the Canterbury Region of the South Island of New Zealand. This regatta was open to all types of electric scale boats and yachts and involved no less than 39 competitors. Then, at Kenwith Castle lake in Devon, England, on the other side of the world, a similar regatta welcomed a fleet of 25 low voltage vessels where some of the water-craft devotees dashed to launch their motored miniatures for a steering competition around the lake, whilst others held back, happy to display their models. The lake was weed-free with a launching pontoon complete with hydraulic lift for heavier boats. A rescue boat was on hand for recovering models that have run aground or broken down. And these are just two of many venues around the globe!
