Berkeley Marina Goes Electric with the VITA Seal

April 21, 2025 – In a landmark move for clean marine operations on the U.S. West Coast, Berkeley Marina has added its first fully electric workboat to the fleet: the VITA Seal. This initiative marks a bold step toward decarbonizing one of California’s busiest harbors and sets the tone for waterfront sustainability across the country.

The VITA Seal is already making waves in daily operations—patrolling docks, towing vessels up to 60 feet, removing floating debris, and responding to emergencies—all with zero emissions and near-silent performance.

Raising the Bar for Marina Mobility

With Evoy//Vita’s high-performance electric propulsion systems, the VITA Seal combines torque-rich, on-demand power with ease of use, proving that electric workboats can meet the tough demands of commercial harbor environments.

“We have a lot of docks to cover, and an electric-powered boat is the best way to get around,” says Sean Cruthers, Waterfront Supervisor at Berkeley Marina. “Even without a fast charger, battery use hasn’t been an issue. Its torquey, on-demand power is a definite asset.”

A Symbol of Change

As the first electric powerboat stationed at the marina, the VITA Seal is helping shift public perception about what workboats can be—quiet, powerful, and clean. Beyond utility, it signals a broader commitment to reducing environmental impact and promoting responsible stewardship of local waters.

With plug-in charging, whisper-quiet operation, and zero emissions, the VITA Seal is more than a boat— it’s a sign of what’s possible when innovation meets sustainability.
