ALVA Yachts shortlisted in The Gussies 2023 Award
ALVA Yachts, the German builder of luxury electric solar catamarans and sail boats, has been shortlisted for a Gustave Trouvé Award (The Gussies), which celebrates excellence in electric boats and boating.
The brand’s world-first OCEAN ECO 90 H2, has been shortlisted amongst eight other boats in the category of ‘Production Electric Boats over 8m/26ft’ following an international judging panel which selected from over 160 electric boats to reach a shortlisting ahead of a public vote.
The OCEAN ECO 90 H2 is the world’s first fuel less 90ft superyacht catamaran with wings. Running without fossil fuels and producing zero emissions, the yacht is designed with luxury, safety and performance in mind. It is built with the latest technology surpassing self-sufficient competitors by relying on purely sustainable sources of energy.
The full-electric OCEAN ECO 90 H2 is powered by two performance electric motors, connected to a 500+ kWh battery pack, which is powered by the sun from 200m2 of solar panelling plus a range extender consisting of a fuel cell supplied by EODev and integrated by SECO Marine. Currently in-build at ALVA’s Antalya shipyard, It will be fitted with Ayro’s Oceanwings© wind propulsion system with wind sensors on the wing sails. This data is then analysed by a computer and its motors adjust the wing sail angle of attack and camber
Its owner has plans to use the OCEAN ECO 90 H2 for commercial use including private and corporate events, and chartering. He declares that his aim is to highlight to the public that we can sail safely, sustainably, with an environmentally fully clean system and with a high level of comfort, converting a dream into reality.
Milan Henn of ALVA Yachts, said: “We are pleased to see the concept of the OCEAN ECO 90 H2 be recognised in this year’s Gussies awards. The build is well underway, and we are delighted to have such a confident and innovative client that has pushed us to explore new technologies involved with this superyacht catamaran. This project really takes a leap in technology and a superyacht that can operate without fossil fuel is something we could only dream of. But with the help of strong partners and a lot of effort from the ALVA team, we want to show what is possible in boat building today.”
