The Silent 62 3-Deck “100%” begins its Atlantic crossing
The Silent 62 3-Deck “100%” has departed from Gibraltar and is now sailing toward Antigua on a solar-electric Atlantic crossing. On board, a crew of five will make the passage in stages, following the traditional route via the Canary Islands. Vice Chairman Steve Bell is the Captain on board for this journey, sharing life at sea and daily insights throughout the crossing.
This voyage is an opportunity to observe how solar energy production, battery storage and electric propulsion perform during a long-distance ocean passage.
As Steve Bell explains: “This isn’t about racing across the Atlantic. It’s about crossing efficiently, with the minimum amount of generator use and fuel. We are cruising at around 6 to 6.5 knots, flying the kite as much as possible once we pick up the trade winds. We aim to operate silently for many hours each day, and use the generator only when needed.”
He continues: “We want to show that this yacht is fully capable of long-range passages.”
The crew will share updates along the way, offering a close look at life at sea and performance over time. The yacht’s position, daily progress and weather conditions can be tracked throughout the crossing.
